Payroll & Benefits Accountant



Calculating and processing semi-monthly multi-state payroll ensuring accuracy, confidentiality and timeliness.

Ensure compliance with all state and federal payroll, sales tax laws, by maintaining a current knowledge with timely implementation and maintenance.

Reconciles and prepares timely state and federal payroll and sales tax reports including but not limited to 941, 940, unemployment, W-2’s, sales taxes, gross receipt taxes and business and occupation taxes.

Processing, updating and maintaining paperwork to include new hires, promotions, salary changes, and terminations ensuring complete documentation and timely notification to proper parties.

Implement employee benefits programs and inform employees of benefits by studying and assessing benefit needs and trends; recommending benefit programs to management; directing the processing of benefit claims; obtaining and evaluating benefit contract bids; awarding benefit contracts; reviewing and analyzing annual filings/reports and conducting educational programs on benefit programs.

Ensure compliance with COBRA, benefits administration and employment law by maintaining a current knowledge with timely implementation and maintenance.

Review and reconcile benefit administration invoices from third party vendors.

Prepares timely billing to clients including dispute resolutions.

Performs basic accounting functions including reconciliation of asset/liability/expense accounts.

Performs all receptionist/accounting clerk duties as needed including answering phones, processing cash receipts, accounts payable and employee expenses.

Other duties may be assigned.


This position does not require any supervisory duties.


To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. 


Bachelor’s degree from a four year college or university and three (3) years related experience and/or equivalent combination of education and experience
